From day one, dine like a Folly Beach local. In the city — and across the surrounding area — there is no shortage of quality establishments to frequent.
Just like the area itself, restaurants in and around Folly Beach are laid-back. Providing outstanding menu items, residents flock to their favorites each week. In Folly Beach, grab a table at highly-recommended spots such as Lost Dog Cafe, Loggerhead's Beach Grill, Rita's Seaside Grille, and Chico Feo. Nearby, on the stretch of road that leads to Folly Beach, Bowens Island Restaurant is an iconic establishment. Serving as a casual waterside eatery, and as the site of fundraiser oyster roasts, this restaurant should be at the top of every seafood lover’s must-try list.
Things to Do
Known for its myriad of activities, both seasonal and year-round, Folly Beach locals always have fun events and places to enjoy minutes from home.
Seasonally, there are several events that every Charleston area resident needs to experience at least once. The holiday season is especially active around this part of town. Hands down, the most notable event is the Holiday Festival of Lights. Held at the James Island County Park, attendees are treated to a drive-thru display of lights. Exploring the park on foot, view even more lights, ride the holiday train, roast marshmallows, and say “hi” to Santa. Next, ring in the New Year by attending the Flip Flop Drop (where a giant glimmering flip flop is lowered at midnight). The next day, don’t miss your chance to participate in (or people watch at) the Bill Murray Look-A-Like Polar Bear Plunge.
During the rest of the year, there are many more ways to have a good time. In addition to being the site of the Holiday Festival of Lights, the James Island County Park gives visitors the opportunity to go biking, camping, crabbing, hiking, rock wall climbing, kayaking, and more. Close by, the Wild Blue Ropes Adventure Park is another great place to take the entire family. On top of the numerous public beach access points, Folly Beach County Park is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a guaranteed place to park, as well as a less crowded beach experience.
