Tips for Living Green

Trying to save the environment AND keep a little cash in your pocket?  Try these tips to tackle both:

  • Fix any plumbing leaks.
  • Install a programmable thermostat.
  • Use compact, long-life fluorescent light bulbs.
  • During winter, change the filter in your furnace monthly.
  • Use non-toxic cleaners in your home.
  • Buy furnishings constructed of natural materials.
  • Compost your food waste.
  • Cut down on paper products.
  • Depend on reusable items.
  • Ride your bike, walk or take public transportation.
  • Think globally but buy (produce) locally.
  • Use rechargable or solar-charged batteries.
  • Avoid products with excess packaging.
  • Buy a couple of canvas bags to transport groceries.
  • Avoid the use of aerosols.
  • Never dispose of paint, solvents, or motor oil in your garbage can.
  • Donate your old books to libraries or schools.
  • Donate your old photos and letters to your local historical society.
  • Don’t take that old dishwasher to the dump, donate it.
